Pension Calculator as per ROPA
Pension Calculator (ROPA 2019)
Planning for retirement is one of the most important financial steps for any government employee. In West Bengal, pension calculations are governed by the ROPA 2019 rules. Understanding how your service length and last basic pay affect your monthly pension can help you secure your future.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a monthly pension in West Bengal:
- Minimum Service: You must have at least 10 years of qualifying service.
- Full Pension: To receive the full pension benefit, you need a qualifying service of 20 years or more.
The Calculation Formula
- For 20+ Years of Service: Your Basic Pension is simply 50% of your Last Basic Pay.
- For 10 to 20 Years of Service: The pension is calculated proportionately:
- (Last Basic Pay / 2) × (Years of Service / 20)
- Limits: As per current rules, the minimum pension is ₹8,500 and the maximum is ₹1,00,500.
What is Qualifying Service?
Qualifying service refers to the period of service that counts toward your retirement benefits. It typically excludes “Extraordinary Leave” (EOL) without a medical certificate or periods of suspension not treated as duty.
Commutation of Pension
Employees also have the option to “sell” a portion of their pension (up to 40%) in exchange for a lump-sum amount at the time of retirement. This is known as commutation. While this provides immediate cash, it reduces your monthly basic pension for the next 15 years.
