Leave Encashment Calculator
Leave Encashment Calculator
Unused earned leave doesn’t have to go to waste — it can be encashed at retirement or, in some cases, during service. This calculator works out the monetary value of your accumulated leave for West Bengal government employees.
What Is Leave Encashment?
Leave encashment is the process of converting unused earned leave into a cash payment, based on your Basic Pay and DA at the time of encashment. It’s most commonly availed at retirement, where employees can encash their accumulated earned leave balance up to a prescribed maximum.
For West Bengal state government employees, the maximum number of earned leave days that can be accumulated and encashed is capped, and the amount received at retirement is fully tax-exempt, making it a valuable retirement benefit.
How to Use the Leave Encashment Calculator
- Basic Pay and DA: Enter your Basic Pay and applicable DA percentage.
- Number of Leave Days: Enter the number of earned leave days you want to encash, up to the maximum permissible limit.
- Calculate: Click calculate to see your estimated leave encashment amount.
How to Calculate Leave Encashment
Leave Encashment = [(Basic Pay + DA) ÷ 30] × Number of Leave Days
Your combined Basic Pay and DA is divided by 30 to arrive at a daily rate, which is then multiplied by the number of earned leave days you’re encashing. Note that HRA and Medical Allowance are not included in this calculation.
The maximum number of earned leave days that can be accumulated and encashed is capped at 300 days; even if your actual balance exceeds this, only the capped number of days is eligible for encashment at retirement.
Benefits of the Leave Encashment Calculator
- Retirement income estimate: Get a clear figure for this often-overlooked component of retirement benefits.
- Tax-free clarity: Understand that this amount is fully tax-exempt at retirement, unlike some other allowances.
- Leave balance planning: See the cash value of leave you’re holding, which can inform whether to use or accumulate further leave.
- Service book cross-check: Verify the figure against your office’s leave account records.
Leave encashment can add a meaningful, tax-free amount to your retirement payout, so it’s worth tracking your earned leave balance throughout your career rather than letting it lapse unused where rules permit accumulation only up to a cap.
