Sabooj Sathi (সবুজ সাথী — ‘Green Companion’) is one of West Bengal’s most celebrated student welfare schemes, providing free bicycles to all students studying in Class 9 to Class 12 in government and government-aided schools. Launched in 2015, the scheme has distributed over 1.2 crore bicycles, dramatically improving school attendance — especially for girls in rural areas — by solving the last-mile connectivity problem.
