Key Rules:

• ROPA 2019 revision increased Medical Allowance from ₹300 to ₹500/month, effective 01.01.2020.

• WBHS 2008 enrollees must forgo Medical Allowance from their salary/pension in exchange for cashless treatment benefits (up to ₹2,00,000 per indoor treatment in empanelled hospitals).

• Indoor treatment reimbursement limit is ₹3,500 per occasion for non-WBHS employees under the old Medical Attendance Rules, 1964.

• Medical Allowance is not linked to basic pay — it is a flat fixed amount regardless of grade/level.

• Pensioners receive this as “Medical Relief” embedded in their monthly pension, subject to the same WBHS forfeiture condition.

• Risk/Hazard Allowance of ₹300/month is payable separately to eligible categories (e.g., employees handling explosives, hazardous chemicals) w.e.f. 01.01.2020.
